Volunteer Team from Convio Wins First Prize in AIR (Accessibility Internet Rally) Interactive Competition at 2008 SXSW Interactive Festival
Austin, Texas (March 14, 2008) —
A volunteer team of three interactive services and web design and development specialists from Convio and a Convio Fusion Partner, won first prize in this year's AIR (Accessibility Internet Rally) Interactive Competition. Convio's team competed against seven other Web pro teams to design an accessible, highly interactive rich media site for Austin-area musicians, artists and arts organizations. The awards were presented at the 2008 SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas on March 11, 2008.
Convio's winning team, was comprised of interactive services specialists and web designers Shara Kilarski, Don Roach and Brandy Reppy plus Kirk Watson, principal for Causeway Interactive. They received first prize for Byrd & Street's Music for Your Soul Web site.
The accessible design competition is a central initiative of Knowbility, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1999 in Austin, Texas, to raise awareness and rally communities to support the independence of children and adults with disabilities by promoting the use and improving the availability of accessible information technology.
"I am proud not only of the success and recognition that our talented team achieved through this competition, but also of their commitment and passion for improving the availability of accessible information technology for people with disabilities," said Gene Austin, CEO of Convio. "At Convio we envision a world where causes and people connect to achieve extraordinary results. I am heartened by organizations such as Knowbility and the commitment of our people to make sure that technology barriers do not prevent children, youth, and adults with disabilities from fully participating in changing the world."
Produced in Austin since 1998, and replicated in cities throughout the country, AIR is nationally recognized for excellence and innovation for engaging communities in Web accessibility issues through its fun, friendly web design competition. The AIR program has long-term results and provides benefits for the whole community. Web developers learn about how and why to create accessible online applications and then apply their new skills by creating an accessible Web site that is reviewed by national accessibility experts.
