Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization Wins International ePhilanthropy Award for Convio-Powered Web Site
Convio’s Internet Tools Help Organization Drive Registration, Giving and Participation in Annual RACE and Walk to Empower Events
Austin, Texas (September 30, 2005) —
Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization (Y-ME) — dedicated to ensuring through information, empowerment and peer support that no one faces breast cancer alone — has been named winner of the "Best Event Registration and/or Membership Campaign" in the 2005 International ePhilanthropy Awards. Y-ME uses a Convio-powered Web site and online tools as a critical connection between the organization, volunteer fundraisers and supporters of the annual Y-ME RACE Against Breast Cancer and Walk to Empower events.
The International ePhilanthropy Awards, presented by the ePhilanthropy Foundation, honor individuals, organizations, and companies that have: 1) demonstrated extraordinary talent, creativity, and insight in drawing the public's attention to the important use of the Internet for philanthropic purposes; and 2) created services or strategies that support this effort.
Convio is the leading provider of online constituent relationship management solutions (eCRM) for nonprofits. The company's software and services help organizations use the Internet for building strong constituent relationships to drive fundraising, marketing, advocacy and other forms of mission-critical support.
Y-ME uses Convio TeamRaiser to increase participation, giving and administrative efficiency for its RACE Against Breast Cancer — the largest cause-related event in Chicago — and its new Walk to Empower events held this year in Houston and San Diego. Convio's online solution allows Y-ME event participants to log in to secure, personal pages where they can view announcements from the organization, obtain personal fundraising progress reports, use email tools to recruit other participants, and also solicit and acknowledge supporters. Additionally, participants can create personal or team Web pages to tell their stories, with photos and personal narratives, about why they are participating as well as to communicate with and solicit support from potential donors.
"We're honored that the ePhilanthropy Foundation has recognized Y-ME with this prestigious award, especially considering we were among such a respectable field of other finalists from the nonprofit sector," said Margaret C. Kirk, CEO, Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. "With Convio, we've been able to provide easy-to-use online tools to people participating in our annual RACE and Walk to Empower events. This has allowed Y-ME to offer a fun and memorable experience for event participants, acquire new supporters and greatly increase the amount of funds raised to support our work and fulfill our mission of ensuring no one faces breast cancer alone."
Using Convio's online tools, Y-ME generated significant results for its 2005 events:
- More than 27,000 participants took part in the 2005 Y-ME RACE;
- The organization exceeded its fundraising goal of $3 million by raising more than $3.6 million;
- More than $1.4 million, or 40 percent, of the group's donations for the 2005 Y-ME RACE was raised online;
- The organization received and processed an estimated 37,000 online donations for the event; and
- Both of Y-ME's first-time 2005 Walk to Empower events raised a combined $100,000 online of an overall $265,000 gross revenue.
"It is very gratifying to see an organization such as Y-ME achieve such strong results using Convio tools and equally as rewarding to have the organization widely recognized as a leader within the nonprofit industry with this award," said Gene Austin, CEO, Convio. "Y-ME is an excellent example of how a nonprofit group today can and should empower its supporters so that they can more fully contribute to the overall success of the organization."
