The Client
America’s Second Harvest of Wisconsin (SHOW), a member of Feeding America, is a food bank with warehouses in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley. Distributing more than 13 million pounds of food a year to more than 1,100 pantries, meal programs and other agencies, they nourish over 235,000 people in the eastern half of Wisconsin.
The Problem
SHOW wanted to communicate more frequently with their donors, but disliked that they had to include a fundraising appeal in every direct mail piece to defray printing and postage costs. They understood that online communications offered a cost-effective alternative to direct mail, but only had email addresses for 3% of their donor database.
How We Solved It
As recommended by consultants with the Convio Go! Program, SHOW incorporated an email sign-up component prominently on their homepage. They also provided the Go! team with photos and text to begin an automated Welcome Series triggered by these sign-ups.
The Outcome
Though SHOW started with only 1000 email addresses in their list, more than twice this number have now signed up online and received a warm welcome. These welcome messages resulted in instant support from some subscribers, many of whom clicked on links in the emails and donated online immediately.
